Are You Running From Your Dream?

dreamsAre you someone who has received a picture of themselves doing something totally out of your current character?  Or have you been dreaming of a different life than the one you have now?

Maybe you have characterized the above as nothing more than pipe dreams.  If you have, listen up.  God sends you messages in strange ways sometimes.  Our challenge is to allow ourselves to entertain those pictures, dreams, etc. until they become large enough that we get the message.

Instead, what many of us do is run the other way.  I have been one of those people if I’m honest with myself.  I want “x”, I see “x” as a possibility, but when I begin thinking about how to make “x” happen, my thought processes tell me all of the reason why “x” will never happen.

Running vs. Faith

Have you been there?   As the saying goes, when the going gets tough the tough get going.   In the past,  I’d look for the reasons why it wouldn’t work, or the easy way out which generally meant no further growth in Faith.

If God has given you a dream, then you cannot fail!  You are being called to grow in faith and trust.  You have been blessed with a dream.  Your purpose is to follow that dream.

Running takes on many different shapes.  I have a friend whose running takes the form of being “busy“.  You know all that stuff that doesn’t amount to a hill of beans, but for some reason we just simply have to get to it?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve “run away” from my potential from time to time being “busy“.  In fact for me I really have to watch this trap. When I see myself getting caught up in it I truly have to stop myself and ask “what am I avoiding?”

A Lesson From The Old Testament

Remember Joseph!  He had a dream.  He  accomplished that dream, but not until he was challenged personally and imprisoned.  God molded him until he was ready to be one of the most powerful men in all of Egypt.

When we are given a dream, we too must be challenged.  We must grow from the inside out.  All of the great men of scripture and history paid a price before realizing their greatness.  Why do we expect to be any different?  Only when we are ready, will we realize our dream.

Dream Big Dreams

So the next time you have a dream, do not dismiss it.  Grab onto it.  Be prepared to be challenged and to grow from within.  Do not let anyone steal your dream.  When you hear those voices telling you all the reasons why you will fail, recognize that these are paradigms that are limiting you.

Open your mind.  Opportunity will come to you.  Sometimes it is disguised as something you would never see yourself doing.  If this happens to you, ask yourself what are the reasons why I don’t see myself doing “x”?  You might just find that the reasons are all about what you think you can’t do or it’s about fear.

Fear, The Illusion

Fear is generally rooted in paradigms of how we see ourselves.  If you examine your dream, you will also find that how you see yourself is different than what you currently are.  What you are today, can be changed to express more of you.   That’s what personal growth is all about.  Tapping into your unique potential and expressing it.  Becoming more of who you are!  Fear holds you back.

Getting the feeling to run away from an opportunity may be a clue to the personal growth that is required of you to accomplish your dream.  This is not to say jump at any opportunity that comes along.  Remember, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.  There are no free rides!

Four Easy Steps

  1. Seek out people who will not only challenge you to grow, but will also support your efforts.
  2. Write out your dream in as much detail as possible.  Write it out over and over again.  Preferably on a daily basis.
  3. See it accomplished.  Allow yourself to feel the victory.
  4. Act on your dream, knowing that it is yours no matter how long it takes.

Your life will be filled with great satisfaction,  joy, fulfillment and awe!

  1. I think one of the toughest challenges we face today with regard to our dreams is the constant inference from mainstream “media” that dreams are attainable in an instant. Never are the constant setbacks and downright knockdowns addressed.

What most don’t realize is that those setbacks and knockdowns are oftentimes feedback to what’s going on themselves

  2. You are so correct Cecilia. I would also add that mainstream “media” does not paint a picture of hope.
Setbacks and knockdowns are a part of success. One must experience them if they are going to become and have more. These setbacks allow a person the great opportunity of looking into themselves.
