Adversity And The Networker
In order for us to win in life we must push through the adversity we face. Without facing it, we are poorly prepared for winning. The truth is most of us don’t welcome adversity like a long lost friend. We don’t embrace with passion the pain and setbacks that occur. Rather we retreat into our personal “cocoons” for safety.
Value of Adversity
Alfred Russell Wallace was a famous botanist of the late 1800’s. One day Dr.
Wallace was observing an Emperor butterfly struggling through the life and death adversity of escaping its cocoon. He wondered if he assisted the butterfly in its exit, what effect that would have on the butterfly.
With a knife, Dr. Wallace made an incision the length of the cocoon that allowed the butterfly to exit the cocoon with ease. The butterfly emerged from its cocoon, spread its wings and died.
The butterfly did not have to encounter adversity in struggling to exit the cocoon. Through the struggle the butterfly would have grown in strength. Since it failed to struggle and grow it did not have the strength necessary to survive.
Looking For Easy
We often try to make incisions in our challenges and take the easy route. We take the quick exit as this butterfly did and fail to acquire the strength to compete.
We often take the easy route to improve our skills. We never really work to achieve mastery. We never really study, practice, craft scripts, build solid presentations around the skills necessary for the MLM industry.
Having More Value
Even Jim Rohn learned the skills of this industry. By doing so, he became more valuable.
Any MLM master invests time and money into study and developing their presentations. They learn how to craft their message effectively, blended with sincerity.
It’s very easy to take the incision route of websites, lead generation programs, social networking, in hopes that people just simply sign up. Deep down inside we are hoping we never really have to connect with people and generate relationships. Or, become masterful at communicating with people.
I know, I’ve been there, and sometimes I too retreat to my cocoon.
Too Good To Be True ?
Remember, anyone who tries to “sell” you the line of no work on your part, all you have to do is sign up and the money rolls on in, is just that—a line.
Anything worth something, and in Network Marketing longevity, takes effort and change on our part. There are no free lunches. If it’s too good to be true, it is. Down deep inside, I know it and so do you.
Without developing the skills and ourselves, we tend to die in our cocoons, because nothing replaces the skills we need to acquire longevity in the MLM industry and to be in a position to compete over the long term. Remember, money seeks its own level.
In the study of the Law of Compensation, you discover that as you become more valuable to the marketplace, your bank account will reflect that value. But then that’s a whole other series of blogs coming soon.
Adversity is necessary to teach us lessons and to help us grow in areas we are resisting. Embrace those opportunities.

Well, embracing adversity can bring you more if you don’t know what you are doing. And if you think adversity is a good thing, just like anything else, you can get too much of it. There comes a point when enough is enough, so I encourage you to embrace adversity with a purpose and maybe a little bit of caution.
I have a few thoughts on this:
1. Does healthy person in the Western world know what adversity REALLY is?
2. I know a few people who were born healthy and into wealthy families. They’re doing just fine!
3. I feel like I’m a better and stronger person because of the struggles I’ve overcome in my life.
4. I get a really nice feeling when I manage to overcome a challenge or other difficulty.
5. Did Alfred Wallace inadvertently kill the Butterfly with his knife???! (kidding).
