Have Your Goals Gone By The Wayside?

Have Your Goals Gone By The Wayside?

Ah January has all but gone and here we are taking a look back at the first month of the new year.  What resolutions have you already forgotten about?

What goals have you abandoned because of some lame excuse?

Yea, I called it a lame excuse, because I’ve had several this year that I’ve had to deal with.  All those reasons why I didn’t do something, were nothing more than lame, or an opportunity to shoot myself down in the language of either self pity or telling myself all the reasons why I “can’t” do, be, or have something.

Have any of you been there this month?  Well I’m here to remind us all that we are unique and special!  That we can have, be, do,  provided we do some simple things on a very consistent basis.

First:  The Law

Let’s revisit The Law of Attraction.  Darren Hardy explains it quite simply when he says:

“….Our brain is always trying to align our outer world with what we’re seeing and expecting in our inner world.  So, when you instruct your brain to look for the things you want, you will begin to see them.  In fact, the object of your desire has probably always existed around you, but your mind and eyes weren’t open to “seeing” it.”

This is The Law.  Tell your brain, with emotion (positive) what you really want and focus on it.  What you will find is people and things will come into your life that will catapult you in the direction of what you are focusing on.

Question: What are you really focusing on?  Are you focusing on the economy? the perceived lack? what the government is not doing? all the hub bub of what is wrong?  What are your expectations?

When I changed my focus in the middle of January, everything changed.  My expectations started changing, and I started seeing the results I wanted.

Second:  Goals

I know, everyone talks about having goals, but how many of you actually have them written down?  Did you know that if they are not clear, measurable and written down that your goals are nothing more than fantasies?

Question: Are your goals written down?

Third:  Plans For Accomplishment

Now that you have clear, measurable goals that are written down, what are your plans for their accomplishment?  Even The Law requires action on your part.  Nothing of any real value is free.  We all have to do something.  Our goals and plan are not tied to what anyone else or anything else is or is not doing.  Goals and plans are tied to what you are doing.

Question: What are your plans for your accomplishing your goals?

Fourth:  Consistency

Something I learned last year was the value of consistency.  In my business, I had undergone some serious challenges.  In January of 2010 my income from this business was only $210.00.  Yep, you read it correctly, $210.00.

I believe in the direct selling  and in the wellness industry.  So I decided to try a concept called consistency for which in the past I would do for about 90 days, quit for a couple months or so, start over, etc.  You all know what I’m talking about.  We do it with weight loss, fitness centers, etc. etc.

I decided what I was going to do on a weekly basis, and do it for twelve months.  I would focus on those weekly tasks one week at a time.  Twelve months seemed like a very long time to me.  In fact, thinking I had to do “X” for twelve months seemed overwhelming.

Trust me, what I did was minimal, but I was consistent.  Week in and week out.  There were times the monthly income looked pretty bleak.  I had a goal to reach in December.  It was $1000.00 a month income.

For the first 90 days my monthly check was bouncing around $350.  Not very exciting!  Next 90 days, $500.  Next 90 days, $750.  By December, 2010, my check was $989.00, and as of this writing, it is in the neighborhood of $1300 mo.

I’m not telling you this to brag.  I’m telling you this because last year I did the steps above, and this year I’m doing them again.  I know what I’ve just told you works, because I’ve tried it and done it and seeing the results.  I could go on about last year’s weight loss goal.  Results were the same- down 25 lbs. and kept it off during the holidays.

I’ve written down goals before; made plans for their accomplishment before; even focused on what I really wanted,  but never got the full results until I learned to apply the magic of consistency.

Let’s step it up a notch, and rewrite those great goals for 2011!  It’s never too late to get started.
